1. TRAVEL

By train:

highspeed trains operate on the Milan-Bologna route. Parma is 90 km from Bologna and 110 km from Milan.

By car:

the highway A1 (Autostrada del Sole) links Parma with Milan and with Bologna, Florence, Rome. The highway A15 connects Parma with La Spezia and Pisa.

By plane:

THE AIRPORTS OF MILAN AND BOLOGNA ARE DAILY CONNECTED WITH THE MAIN EUROPEAN CITIES. PARMA AIRPORT IS DAILY CONNECTED WITH ROME FIUMICINO.

The Conference venue is located in the city centre, Via Università 12, at a walking distance from the hotels, 15 minutes walk from the railway station.


2. TRANSPORT

Monday and Tuesday:

The conference will be held in the main Univesity building in Via Università, 12, in the Aula Magna, (N.2 in the map), most of the hotels are at walking distance.

Wednesday Thursday and Friday:

The Conference will move to the University Campus, out of town. One run of two shuttles will be available, free of charge, at 8.30, to take you at the "Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra". The stops in town are indicated with S (see map). The same shuttles will take back in town the partecipants at the end of the day program.

For those who miss the shuttle, the Campus Express or bus number 7 or 14 (direction "Campus - Università") every 15 minutes, run from the railway station, stop along Via Mariotti, P.zza Corridoni and, at the end of the ride, on Campus. Once in the University Campus, the Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra, is located at 10 minutes walk from the bus stop.


3. ICE BREAKER PARTY

Sunday September 8th, from 18:00, an ice-breaker party will be held in an antique palazzo in the city center, close to the main University in Strada Conservatorio n°2, 1° floor (N. 1 in map). Drinks and finger food will be offered.


4. SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

The Conference will start on MONDAY 9 AT 9.00 a.m. in the Aula Magna Via Università, 12 (see map N. 2).

A general and scientific program (including City and Campus maps) of the events will be provided to the partecipants at the registration desk.


5. REGISTRATION

Registration fee (140 EUR per person and reduced rate 80 EUR for students) will be possible on Monday morning at the entrance of the Aula Magna (Old University Building). Please note that for on-site registrations CREDIT CARDS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED (cash only).

Registration fee will cover: Conference Program, Abstract Volume, Ice-breaker Party, Coffee-breaks, Concert, Guided tour of artistic localities, Thursday lunch, Conference bag, T-shirt.


6. TALKS

As far as possible we will endeavour to accommodate all presentations suggested, however, in the event of oversubscription we may need to be selective of oral presentations, in this case we may limit participants to one oral presentation.

Time for talks: 15-20 min.


7. POSTERS

Posters sessions will be formally organised. All posters will be displayed throghout the duration of the conference but on each day there will be a specific poster theme related to the oral theme. Selected presenters will be invited to give brief oral introductions to their posters.

Poster size: A0 = 841 X 1189 (vertical) mm

Material to fix posters will be available in the conference office


8. WORKSHOPS

Two workshop groups A and B will run simultaneously, on Thursday afternoon.

10. LUNCHES

Monday and Tuesday:
in the vicinity of the main University building, in the city center, there are many cafeterias and little restaurants serving lunch or pizza.

Wednesday:
the conference will move to the Campus, out of town, and in the afternoon a tour of the surrounding areas will be organized. For those joining the tour, a packed lunch will be provided, free of charge.

Thursday:
a quick lunch in the S. Elisabetta building, in the vicinity of the Department of Earth Science on the Campus, will be served to the Partecipants, free of charge (see map of Campus). Please inform the staff if you prefer a vegetarian meal.

Friday:
1.00 p.m. end of the Conference. Start of the field trip to Liguria.


11. CONCERT

Monday at 21.30
In the main hall of the Palatina Library: Recital (piano) of a Soprano, who will interpreter some of Verdi's "romanze" (N. 3, in the map).


12. TOURISTIC VISIT

Wednesday AFTERNOON from about 14.00 a guided tour, free of charge, will start from campus. Two buses will alternate the visit of the medioeval Torrechiara Castle, a Parma Ham producer, and the Magnani-Rocca Art Collection. Expected arrival time in Parma: 18,30.


13. CONFERENCE DINNER

Wednesday at 20.30, the conference dinner will be held in the lounge of the "Società di Lettura", Via Melloni n°4, in the city center, at the price of 32 Euro (N. 4, in the map)


14. FIELD TRIP

Post-conference field-trip: September 13 and 14

Northern Appennine, Liguria - Cinque Terre (Five Lands)

Contents:

13/9:

13.30: transfer by bus and view of the Helmithoid Flysch outcrops. Arrival in Monterosso and accomodation at the Hotel degli Amici. The dinner will be served at the hotel at about 8.00 p.m.

14/9:

8-8.30 a.m. - Breakfast at the Hotel.

9.00 a.m. departure by boat and view from the sea of the Tuscanid succession, from the Triassic to the Tertiary.
Stop in Manarola and short walk along the rocky path so-called "love path", for a closeup of the Macigno sanstones, arrival in Riomaggiore. Onboard from Riomaggiore to Portovenere. Stop for a closeup of the Mesozioc succession.

13.00. Lunch in Portovenere.

15.00 Departure by bus from Portovenere. On the way back stop in Berceto (Apennine) at about 16.30, to visit the Romanic Cathedral and have a view of the Ligurid successions.

Arrival in Parma at ca. 18.00

Equipment: light boots, raincoat, swimsuit.
